Do I qualify for a FREE boiler grant if I’m a tenant?
Tenants living in England and wales who claim any of the qualifying benefits could be entitled to the First Time Central Heating Grant under the governments Eco 3 scheme, tenants can claim for a FREE Gas Central heating scheme if the property they are in has never had a gas central heating system before.
The applicant is always the tenant, so they can claim on their or the landlord’s behalf. The tenant must always have the landlord’s permission to proceed with the First Time Central Heating Grant.
Council houses are not eligible on the ECO 3 scheme nor are housing associations or social housing.
What are the conditions when applying for the First Time Central Heating Grant?
We must do Loft insulation and or as well cavity wall insulation if neither has been done, there is also potential to have the internal wall insulation done as well if the property is built pre 1900’s.
F.A.Q
The grant for tenants provides a new central heating system to be installed including a new combi boiler and radiators, pipework and wireless heating controls. We can also get gas connected to the property if there is gas within 24 meters.
We handle the whole process for you, from start to finish, to installation, to aftercare, to ensure that your central heating is working effectively for you.
What are the qualifying benefits you need to get the first time central heating grant?
Qualifying benefits include some of the following:
Armed Forces Independence Payment, Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, Child Benefit, Child Tax Credit, Constant Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Guaranteed Pension Credit, Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance (JSA), Income-Related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Income Support, Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Severe Disablement Allowance, Universal Credit, War Pensions Mobility Allowance, and Working Tax Credit.
If you, or a member of your household, receive one or more of the above-listed benefit provided by the DWP, then it’s highly likely that you would receive a FREE First Time Boiler Grant.
Many of the above benefits have more recently been replaced by Universal Credit, so if you are in receipt of that, there is a good chance you’ll qualify for a Grant. All you need to do is take a few moments to find out whether you’re eligible today, and then we’ll handle the rest.
Funding for Free Boiler Grants for tenants comes from the ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers – British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power, and SSE. They have an obligation under the Government’s ECO Scheme, to provide grants towards the installation of A-rated energy saving boilers, both for homeowners and private tenants.
If you are a tenant/Homeowner living in a property that has never had gas central heating then it is likely that you’ve been heating your home inefficiently using electric only, which means you more than likely would be over paying for your energy. By having an A-rated boiler and new radiators installed, this will be far more cost-effective and will improve the warmth in your home as well as reducing your annual heating costs considerably, sometimes by as much as £400 annually.
